Let's Talk Synergy!
Herbs, while natural, are medicinal and like any medicines there are necessary precautions to take and a general and specific know-how of what herbs to take, when, and for how long; what herbs partner well with one another, and which can counteract or cause adverse reactions; and herbs that may have severe side effects when interacting with certain prescription and antidepressant medications.

Herbal interactions to avoid:
St. John's Wort with antidepressant, blood thinners, or birth control pills
Ginseng with insulin or diabetes medications
Green tea with warfarin can cause issues with blood clotting
Kava with other sedatives, alcohol, Valerian, anxiety medications. Also avoid Kava if you have insomnia.
The most desirable herbal interactions are those that enhance each others benefits and can result in additional therapuetic benefit. The benefits of herb-herb interactions have been proven in the effective results of Eastern style and Chinese medicinal approaches to care. These interactions are preventative measures and cure to many diseases from common cold and flu to chronic disease and cancer. Some herb-herb interactions of herbs that possess similar properties are known as reinforcements and work synergistically to create greater efficacy. Others can create potentiation, where one herb is principal and the other is used as support for underlying or symptomatic conditions that may linger or arise. If you are creating your own herbal interactions as a beginner, be sure to do plenty of research, self-monitor, and keep record of effects after seeking approval and insight from a licensed health professional with knowledge of your medical history. The addition of lavendar to matcha is mentioned to help relieve indigestion, insomnia, and help to treat migraines.
You'll need:
1/2 tsp- 1 tsp Matcha green tea powder (feel free to moderate this to the strength of which you prefer your tea. keep in mind, a little matcha packs a huge punch!
2 tbsp lavender flower (I prefer loose, dry herbs from my local natural market, there are also a few places online to buy bulk, loose herbs if you don't live close to a market that sells them
1 cup Sugar in the Raw or your choice of sweetener
1 cup distilled water
Your choice of creamer, dairy or non-dairy milk (Almond Coconut milk blend from Califia Farms is my new favorite!)
1/2 tbsp vanilla extract (optional)
How to:
Simmer 1 cup of distilled water, 1 cup of raw sugar, and 1 tbsp of lavender flower on low until melted together to form a simple syrup. Should be light brown in color.
Bring desired mug size of distilled water to a boil in a separate pot or tea kettle.
Use a tea steep or french press to infuse 1tbsp of lavender flower into the boiled water. steep 2-3 minutes (the longer the steep the more potent the taste and benefit of the lavender).
Strain water into desired mug leaving room for desired amount of milk or cream and stir in 1/2-1 tsp of matcha powder, 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract, and lavendar simple syrup mixture.
Finally, add your desired amount of milk or cream once the mixture has cooled if you'd prefer an iced matcha! Sip and enjoy! Modify any ingredients for sweetness and potency to your desire. Everyone's palette is different.

Remember: While herbal teas offer many health benefits, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your diet or supplement regimen. Additionally, be mindful of any allergies or sensitivities to specific herbs.
Herbs are medicinal! This means overdose, side effects, and herb-to-drug interactions are possible! Be mindful of prescription medications you are taking as well as herbal vitamins and supplements and their dosages to ensure you are creating a safe and homeostatic environment for yourself. Again, consult with your physician and don't be afraid to overshare! A surplus of unnecessary information is far better than a lack of necessary. Transparency and honesty with your primary care physician saves lives!
By incorporating herbal teas into your daily routine, you can enjoy the many benefits of natural healing and support your overall health and well-being!
